From left to right:
Revd.
Dr. Stephen Houston D.D., Revd. Barry
Scott and Revd. Christopher Hanson Th.B.,
were all togged out for Revd. Barry
Scott's ordination, Sunday the 26th.
August 2007.
But, the old building hadn't seen so many
people attending church in the former
Causeway Methodist Church for years. The
ground floor was pretty well filled.
Reverend Scott's mother, his father and
mother in law, together with his entire
family circle had made the long journey
from all over England to attend this
ordination service. These included
Reverend Scott's sons David, Paul and
John, and daughters Marion, Michelle,
Ruth and
Esther, their respective spouses and
children.
Some members of what was Croft Road
Fellowship Swindon., back in the
nineteen sixties and seventies, were
present to witness their old friend
Barry being ordained. This group
included the gentleman who led Barry
Scott to a saving knowledge of the Lord
Jesus Christ such a long time ago. Also
Fran Wildish, former CEO of the Vision
Channel, Christian TV now The Gospel
Channel Sky TV, and friend of Revd.
Scott and Dr. Houston was also present.
Many former members of The Free Church,
Bristol., where Barry had spent so many
years together with his wife Rita as
assistant ministers of that church, had
made the journey up to Chippenham to
honour their former Pastor. From the
local North Wiltshire area many old
friends attended, including members of
Hilmarton Chapel.
The preparation of the Candidate for
Ordination, the Scripture reading and a
Prayer were given by the Revd.
Christopher Hanson, a Church of England
minister. Revd. Hanson is a former
colleague and friend of Barry Scott
because both men were stationed by the
RAF in Cyprus. Revd. Hanson also
testified that it was Barry's influence
upon his life which made him repent from
living in a "backslidden state" and
eventually had set him personally on a
course which led to Christian ministry.
An appeal and the prayer for the
offering was given by
the Revd. John Footit
of Chesterfield, and the
ordination service address and the
proceedings were conducted by the Revd.
Stephen Houston.
Dr. Houston also played the pipe organ
which he apparently thoroughly enjoyed,
pedals and all, thrilling some of the
former members of the Chippenham and
Brinkworth members of the Methodist
circuit who were in attendance and who
remember the old Causeway Methodist
Church with fondness.
The actual ordination and ministerial
presentation was administrated by all
the clergy present.
Afterwards, everyone had a time of
fellowship and the refreshments were
provided by the Angel Hotel.
A wonderful day was had by all who were
present.
To God be the Glory
